Digital Learning

Learning has progressed over time. Before we used to think learning was limited to staying in the library. I used to sit for hours in the library just for studying. I was just an average student at that time and it was really fun to study with just books. But as time has changed so should we. Now learning has moved to be digital. We are heavily relying on our tablets and computers to be the source of our learning. Hence comes my  iPad Air 4 . I had previously used an iPad 9.7 which worked well for me but last year I upgraded to an  iPad Air 4 . Compared to the iPad Pro which had the M1 chip it isnt as fast. However, for an average user, the A14 bionic chip is just as fast. For an average user like myself. I use it for checking my emails, writing my blog, studying, and for watching media mainly on Netflix. I can safely say this fits all my needs.  Now the question comes why not purchase iPad Pro vs  iPad Air 4  vs  iPad Air 5 ? Good question. One reaso...

Moving from Middle East (things to do and things not to do)

Moving from the Middle East might be a bit more difficult for some people. Especially people from families as you are used to living in a particular lifestyle. Things might not be exactly as you are expecting so be prepared to be in a culture shock, especially for the kids (if your kids are older). I'll put out points that are necessary for anyone who is moving with families. The First step after getting a job, these are the things you need to do and don't do 1. Check the place where you want to live and approximate rent Websites like  Rightmove  &  Zoopla  are good places to start looking for homes.  What you need to look at is the distance from the school your children will go to & the distance to work. Try to find a place where both locations are not too far and if you could walk to those places. Some houses are very overpriced and always be careful with online viewing as the house might look strikingly different from the pictures. 2. Police Cle...

First few days

Whenever you start working as an IMG. We all faced the same feeling? Feeling left out?  feeling things are a bit lonely? We all had been there. At least most of us. So how do you get through your first weeks? The answer is quite simple, Pull through and show up. While it is easy said than done. Believe me, it isn't. 1. So to start with you can do the simple things first such as to start being kind to people. Believe me, not everyone will be jumping with joy to speak with you. You might feel that you are being given the cold shoulder. But persist, it works!! 2. Start off being polite to nurses. Nurses run the show, they know all the patients, and the hospital better than you would know. They always know tips and tricks about the hospital that can always come in handy. 3. Be willing to learn. You might know everything about medicine, or be a scholar in your respective field but remember, being aware of what to do isn't the only thing required in the NHS, you need to be familiar...

Fear as an IMG!

Few months into your First Job, Do you have panic attacks before going to work? Do you come home from work wondering did I do this right? or did I check the labs of that patient before I left? Do you fear that the decision you took was wrong or second-guessing yourself? Coming home and thinking how alone you are? Most IMG feel a bit uneased. Well, I certainly did when I started, and the reason for the overwhelming fear. In my opinion, it is just a combination of these points, for some, it may be all of them for some they may be other factors and I will tell you how I dealt with that. 1.  Feeling our education was second class and somehow things here are different. When I was in my home country and in Saudi, I saw a lot of people saying in the UK, things are like this, are like that. It sounded magical at some point. Being in the UK for a year now, I think things are quite similar. The knowledge base is rarely different. The difference happens in the type of patients and how to reac...

CV for junior doctors

I had an opportunity to speak with a few doctors, some had just recently graduated and were just trying to find their way. The thing which most new graduates need to understand is to apply for jobs they are interested in or they have some degree of knowledge about (This is I know different from what most of you guys have been advised). I will explain further. For example, if I start applying for gynae or peads jobs, I will eventually make a mess of things as it isn't something I know much about, to be honest. I think some doctors who join the NHS who are unhappy initially work in specialties they don't like or are working in bad departments. So the most important thing is to apply to jobs that you are interested in or have a bit of understanding about. This is important as it would help you deal with all problems relating to that specialty. The thing that I think is important is if someone is hiring you, and with a lot of senior doctors with 1-5 years of experience (sometimes ...

Moving from Middle East- Things to Remember

I was moving with a family, so I understand that there are 100s of things we want to focus on. Things like what city we should move to? where we should live? if you have older children, which schools and colleges? among other things.  These are my advice which everyone who is moving to the UK should remember especially from middle eastern countries. These are all my opinion, of course, please look at your individual circumstances. Remember there is no 1 size fits all solution. Things to bring to the UK 1. Clothes Make sure you have some warm clothes for the beginning as it really gets very cold in the UK. Some people have advised that the clothes are cheaper in the UK. In my opinion, it is honestly the same. Clothes from brands like Mark and Spencer are fine, If you're moving more towards the north, you can also buy thermals for the younger children. 2. Cookware I highly recommend getting your routine cookware, you will be moving into a new country & with the COVID and qu...
