Whenever you start working as an IMG.
We all faced the same feeling? Feeling left out?
feeling things are a bit lonely?
We all had been there. At least most of us.
So how do you get through your first weeks?
The answer is quite simple, Pull through and show up.
While it is easy said than done. Believe me, it isn't.
1. So to start with you can do the simple things first such as to start being kind to people. Believe me, not everyone will be jumping with joy to speak with you. You might feel that you are being given the cold shoulder. But persist, it works!!
2. Start off being polite to nurses. Nurses run the show, they know all the patients, and the hospital better than you would know. They always know tips and tricks about the hospital that can always come in handy.
3. Be willing to learn. You might know everything about medicine, or be a scholar in your respective field but remember, being aware of what to do isn't the only thing required in the NHS, you need to be familiar with the NHS logistics
4. Don't be a dumper or the dumpee. There are some people in the NHS who like to dump their work on others and leave. You will notice that everywhere, from your colleagues to even consultants. Sometimes you have to be firm on your stance, but be careful where you pick your battles.
5. Sometimes it's not always smarting running like in a rat race. Something that might be perfect for one person might not be right for another. So always think about what's right for you and not for others.
6. Show up. It gets easier each day, breath in and breath out. You might learn every day
7. Enjoy your free time doing things you like, otherwise, you will burn out quite quickly.
